Autumn Quilt

Hi everyone,

Each October our schools have a two week holiday - this break is know locally as "the tattie holidays", traditionally this time off school was for the children to help with the harvesting of potatoes, now of course it's all done by machinery but the kids still get their "tattie holidays".

They've been off a week already and we are all totally in 'holiday mode' (never in a million years would my two get out of bed at 6 o'clock to go and pick tatties!) and living with two teenagers has also turned me into a lazy, lethargic lump - my get up and go has got up and went.  I'm doing some school fairs in the run up to Christmas and I had full intention of using these two weeks to get cracking on my stock - but I can't be bothered!!

I have however finished my charity strip quilt, made up of 21 two and a half inch strips.  The back of the quilt is one whole piece and it was put together using the 'quilt as you go' method.

Have to say I'm quite pleased with it ('cause I'm not a quilter!) and as I've used autumnal colours I'm making this a second submission for the Anything But a Card Challenge.

Thanks for coming to visit, see you all soon.

Suze xx

Beautiful quilt! In london the 'tattie' holidays were 'Hop' holidays, cause lots of kids used to go to the country hop-picking! Valerie

Love the quilt and I think it would be great to try and make one.

I used to go potatoe picking when I was at school-I think we had to :( Ok if the weather was fine.

Love Chrissie xx

Our kids only get a week off for halt term and I think I'll tell my 13 year old son he has to go pick potatoes...wonder what response I'd get to that?
This quilt is fabulous, I hate multi-talented people like you lol, you make me feel inadequate.
Seriously I can just imagine snuggling up with this. I've always hankered after a homemade quilt, shame that sister of mine isn't into quilting ;(
You want to adopt me? X

I can remember picking potatoes when I was a child in Scotland - horrible!!
Great quilt Suze and love all the gorgeous fabrics. A labour of love I would say.
Know what you mean about get up and go being got up and gone!! Feel the same way far more often these days!
Thanks for sharing your quilt at Anything But A Card too!

Hiya Suze, your post made me laugh out loud you lazy so and so at least you acknowledge it. Your quilt is amazing !!!!!! You must have some patience woman its a wonder you have any energy left at all. Teenagers are real energy sappers aren't they but I tell you this you will miss them when they are gone !! i'm down to one now and I will miss him dreadfully. No tattie picking here but the boys have to do National Service so I think that more than makes up for it !!! Just saw my horrible sister has been past and slandered my good name again !!!

Take care

Marie
