Let's Get Knotty

Hi folks,

No, it's not a spelling mistake, I do mean 'knotty' and not 'naughty'!

The challenge this fortnight over at Anything But a Card is TIE IT UP! (incorporate things that can be tied: twine, ribbon, thread, wire, rope, cording, trim, chain, seam binding, etc).

What immediately sprung to mind for me was Macrame, all the rage in the 70's, when every trendy household had a hanging plant pot holder! However, that being several decades ago, I couldn't remember how to do the knots so I had to to look it up on the web.  I've gone for the simplest knot and made a wee keyring using black cord and some wooden beads...

Also big in the 70's was stitched art.  I can remember my mother chapping in hundreds of nails and wrapping round fancy threads to make fabulous creations - she may even still have them in the loft - I particularly remember she did a penny farthing!!

Anyways, whilst I was in a retro mood, I decided to make a  stitched card.

I simply printed out a heart shape and punched holes with a needle. I used 3 strands of DMC thread and added some beads.

This card fits the challenges over at ...

Addicted to CAS - Code Word - Heart
Let's Craft and Create - CAS Love

And just for good measure here's a photo of the beautiful sky this morning looking out over the North Sea.

Thanks for coming to visit, hope you're all well!

Take care

Suze xx

The photo is wonderful, how lovely to see the sun again! Great knotty pieces, too - reminds me of my time teaching, when we were busy making macrame owls and doing curve stitching. Good memories, although I'm happy I can stay home these days! Hugs, Valerie

Girl, do not end with that sky shot. I've just realized I've been sitting her for five minutes just dazed by it. What a blessed and spectacular view!

Slap. Okay. Boy, Suze, are you right about the macrame. Mine was pretty ragged by the time I finally let it go. Applause to you for finding out how to knot and doing it!

But, that card. Holy Moly, do I love that card! Talk about starting a trend. If this doesn't win ATCAS there is no sense in the universe. I'm aswoon.

(Also, I'm exhausted from laffing 'cause I thought you said your mother did nail art of a penny farting! Oy. It's hard for me to read the white on black - my meds give me blurry vision at times - but in this case, it was hecka funny!!)

Fantastic photo Suze - what a glorious view you have!
I can remember doing both macrame and stitched pictures like the one you show - takes me back and makes me feel even more ancient than usual! Love that keyring. It wouldn't make a noise like some of the metal ones do when they knock against the car. Great idea!
