Hi all,
Well the clocks went back last night so our days are now very short, tonight it was dark at 5 pm! It's very tempting to just laze in front of the TV on the dark winter nights so I'll need to try and motivate myself to put my specs and the bright light on and do some sofa crafting as I've still some bits and pieces to do for the upcoming Christmas fairs.
The card I have for you today is inspired by the very talented Josie from SewforSoul who makes free machine stitching look super easy. Well, I'm telling you it's not as easy as it looks. Please do not zoom in on the photo as the sewing is all over the place. (Maybe I could get away with saying it adds to the rustic charm of the card, Lol!)
I used a digital image I won a while back from Handmade Harbour .....
I traced all the elements of the bird onto iron on adhesive (Bond-a-web/Steam-a-Seam etc), then cut them out and ironed them onto scraps of batik. All the pieces were then ironed onto a plain background which I then free machined (kinda like drawing with your sewing machine). I then placed my sewn pic behind a dotty frame made with Stampin Up DP.
I'd like to link to Handmade Monday which I haven't joined in with for a few weeks

Okay doke that's me, I'll be back tomorrow for a new Crafty Cardmakers challenge.

Your card is wonderful. I can't seem to get to grips with freehand machine sewing. I can't 'allow' myself to not follow the lines and it always looks wrong when I do it. #handmademonday
This is so pretty! I am completely with you on free machining, nowhere near as easy as it looks but I think you have done a fabulous job :)
So cute - I love the colours you've used. And I do think that 'perfect' stitching might spoil the rustic charm here ;-)
Have a great crafty week, Alison x
This little birdie is soooo sweet! Your machine stitching is great - wish mine was so neat! x
Aww what a cute card :) I think you've done a great job with the free machine stitching, i've never had a go but it sounds challenging! x
It's a great card - the stitching looks appropriate for the style!
Gosh that is cute. You have used lovely fabrics. I can't do free motion machine embroidery. Yours looks great.

I love your sewn card! I make lots of cards, but haven't tried this yet - I'm now inspired to go for it!
It's gorgeous, wish my sewing was so good! Hugs, Valerie
Am garbage with a sewing machine - can do straight edges and that's it! (And sometimes even they are not very straight.....LOL) - Love this birdie Suze...x
The sewing looks great to me Suze! It's quirky, just like your wonderful birdie! Love it! hugs :)
Great sewing and card Susan, love the look of sewing on a card...just wish I could do it and as well as this!! X
A charming card, I think it's great. I don't care about wobbly sewing, as quite frankly sewing machines scare me so I'm easily impressed! Xx
Fab card, thanks for sharing it with us over at Let's Craft and Create.
It looks amazing and I think your freehand machining is lovely.
This is a great card, I find freehand stitching really difficult so well done.

How could this be called anything other than charming, Suze?! It's not only a fun and cheerful card, it would make a fabulous quilt panel, too! I LOE it!! Hugs, Darnell
I actually love the wobbly stitching and it definitely adds to the charm! Gorgeous x
