Vintage Stitching

Hello all,

Well another week has passed and unfortunately I've done absolutely no crafting this week.  It was my son's 18th birthday on Friday so I have been shopping and organising for that and of course tidying the house for visitors coming! Lol!

However, this afternoon,  enthused by this week's vintage sewing theme on The Great British Sewing Bee TV programme,  I decided to take my vintage Singer out of the box and see if I could get it to work. (I purchased it a few months ago at auction).

The machine is actually in "nearly new" condition, with no rusty bits or gunky old fibres clogging the mechanics.  I simply gave it a good oil and dust, threaded it up and off it trundled.  I didn't even have to adjust the tension, it sews perfectly and it can go at a fair speed.

these are the reverse side/bobbin stitches

I've a busy week next week too but hopefully I'll be able to post something!  I'm trying to maintain a weekly post and joining in with Handmade Monday certainly helps. It's a lovely little community of very friendly crafters but the link up is only open for a couple of days so you'll have to be quick if you want to join in.

Okay that's me for today, thanks so much for visiting.

Wishing you all a good week.

Take care

Suze xx

How exciting that you've got the singer working! It really is a thing of beauty. I enjoyed watching everyone using them on the Sewing Bee too :) x

Wow that reminds me I have an Old Singer that I was given sitting at my parents house, I must go and collect it sometime.

The stitching looks great and without a lot of attention or fiddling. If only everything in life was so simple and rewarding :)

Haha, when I saw the thumbnail picture on the link up I had to pop over and see whether you had been inspired by the Great British Sewing Bee! It was a great episode wasn't it!? x

What a beautiful machine, and I'm so impressed you got it working so nicely.
I'm loving sewing bee this year - as always - It's my most favourite program on tv at the moment, an hour of bliss every week!

That really is a beautiful machine. It makes me wonder when machines went electric. I have my mum's hand machine up in the attic, but stopped using it because the stitches went a bit wrong and I thought it would be expensive to have it put right. It is old, but not as pretty as yours.

In awe of any sewers, even more amazing to work a manual rather than electric. I love sewing bee even tho I have a fear of sewing! Would love to do alterations!

Hope this doesn't come twice but I don't think my comment worked - I said your machine is lovely and that I wish I'd bought the one I saw a couple of year's ago for £45 in a secondhand shop!

I'm dreadful at sewing, but even I can appreciate how beautiful a vintage Singer is!

I love your Singer, Suze! And, after all these years, it sews absolutely perfect. I'm excited to see what lovely creations you are going to make.

My granny used to have a Singer which worked via a treadle and it went at such a great speed (well, until your legs got tired!). Yours is so beautiful. I have three machines already and don't think my husband would approve of me buying another just because it's pretty!

Hi Suze. I have 3 sewing machines now but have always wanted to own one of these. Will have to trawl local auctions to see if I can pick up one as good as yours. Finding somewhere to store it would be a challenge!
I think that we are kindred spirits. Regards Lilian
